[EDIT 2024] Best products for red hair!
Shock confession, I’m not a natural redhead, although my mom is one. Yes, I admit that my gorgeous red hair is in fact, not the result of natural selection but rather the result of personal choice. And eight hours undergoing agonising hair colour stripping to nearly white, followed by at least three shades of red hair dye, in order to create a naturally looking copper-red.
The only reason my hair didn’t fall out is that I followed the great advice of my hairdresser at the time. She instructed me to pour extra virgin olive oil on my hair every other day for at least a month. I smelled like a salad but my hair remained and stayed as thick as it had been before the metamorphosis.
I don’t have any pictures of myself with black hair to show you but here is the AFTER photo.

Best Hair Products For Red Hair 2023
So, with the admission of me not being a natural redhead out of the way, I can now say with the purest of hearts, how utterly jealous I am of girls who have been blessed by mother nature with truly ginger locks, to add to their milky white skin and freckles.
I can also now add that, having learnt from first-hand experience, natural redhead or not, maintaining this very demanding colour of your hair requires a product specifically designed to care for it.
Choosing those ‘best products’ out of so many available on the market is no easy task and so I turned to expert Hair-Stylist to the stars, Dawid Krynicki, for some much-appreciated advice.
Best Products for Color-Treated Red Hair!
The best shampoos I’ve tested in recent years for my dyed red hair are John Frieda Radiant Red and Color Lustre Shampoo by Shu Uemura. You only need a small amount of the product to be effective. Both shampoos leave hair shiny and healthy.
The Color Lustre Conditioner from Shu Uemura is as good as the shampoo from the same line. The product doesn’t weigh the hair down and leaves it super shiny. The same can be said about John Frieda Radiant Red.
If you dye your hair once a month and use as many styling products as I do, your hair will need extra care. The Color Lustre Mask from Shu Uemura is a deep conditioner that prevents hair colour from fading. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone with damaged hair. I use it once a week.

Gingerful Hair Product Reviews
Over a month ago, Emma, the founder of the Gingerful brand, contacted me asking if I would like to test the line of products she created specifically for red hair.
As a fan of her lifestyle blog Ginger Parrot, I was excited and jumped at the opportunity to try the Henna & Rose shampoo, conditioner and mask I heard so much about from fellow redheads.
So far, I have used the Gingerful hair shampoo and conditioner on my dyed hair four times and the deep conditioning mask once. My favourite bright copper red shade is difficult to maintain and tends to fade fast. To keep the colour vibrant, I wash my hair only once a week.
I don’t know which particular ingredient, or perhaps it’s the combination of all of them, that keeps my hair so shiny but Gingerful created magic in a bottle. Sustainable bottle, that is.
What I love most about the products, aside from the fact that they are vegan and sulfate-free and keep my hair colour bright, is that they make it easier for me to do a 1940s hairstyle. The usually long and dull process of brushing out tight curls is shorter thanks to how smooth my hair is because of the Henna & Rose conditioner.
The only thing I would nitpick about is the scent. I wish the hair mask smelled like roses. You must understand that I have a very heightened sense of smell and a penchant for certain fragrances, nevertheless, the Gingerful products for redheads are so unbelievably good that I don’t mind at all how they smell or don’t smell because I’m now officially a fan!
Joan Crawford once said about hair
The most important thing a woman can have-next to her talent, of course… Is her hairdresser

So, without further ado, I give you… Best products for red hair – Dawid Krynicki recommends:
