The wardrobe for a vintage Witch, inspired by Veronica Lake in, “I Married a Witch” and the Supreme Witch, Olga Yakubowitch.
I Married a Witch (1942)Twould be nice to have lips…lips to whisper lies…lips to kiss man and make him suffer. Father, why cannot I have lips, and eyes, and hair?
Veronica Lake is the Perfect Witch

“I Married a Witch” is undoubtedly one of my favourite films starring the beautiful Veronica Lake, and not just because of the incredible gowns designed by Edith Head. In truth, I have a penchant for films and books depicting Witches. What can I tell you except that it’s beyond my control!
Film Synopsis
Not to spoil it for those who haven’t seen the film yet, I will only say, that it’s a light and entertaining story of two Witches, Jennifer and her father Daniel, burned in 1672 by Jonathan Wooley.
Obviously, you can’t expect to harm a Witch and get away with it. No exception here. The vengeful and tempestuous Jennifer puts a curse on the Wooley family, the male descendants to be exact so that the sons will never marry the right woman and consequently, they will be deprived of all happiness.
Things get a little bit complicated when Jennifer and her papa get freed from where their souls were imprisoned. They find themselves in the 1940s and plan to ruin the life of to-be-married Wallace Wooley.
Yes, in this particular film, Witches are not deprived of a soul. If the film’s synopsis hasn’t piqued your interest, watch it for no other reason than the visual feast for your soul. Unless, of course, you are a soulless Witch in which case mutter a few maledictions and carry on watching the delightful film.
The Wardrobe For a Vintage Witch!
My, “You don’t mind me being a Witch, do you?” look consists of the new to me 1940s Cameo gown, paired with a couture headpiece by Veroni Deco. The look is partially inspired by Veronica Lake and even more so by the Supreme Witch and extraordinary designer, Olga Yakubowitch.

Yakubowitch-The Designer for a Modern Witch
If you struggle to find authentic vintage pieces worthy of a vintage Witch, I would like to introduce you to the Yakubowitch brand. Olga Yakubowitch is one of the few contemporary designers who take inspiration from the 1940s-1960s and does it right! Her gowns, coats, and even skirts are the perfect marriage between the old and the new. Olga caters to the taste of the vintage girl, the Goth girl, the Witch, and the one who wants nothing more in a dress than a simple elegance matched with superior quality.
