Top 7 make-up and beauty products for the party season and beyond!

by

After a long consideration, I decided to deviate slightly from writing about fashion and share my thoughts with you all on the subject of beauty products (which I’m admittedly addicted to). I’m very pleased that the renowned beauty blogger, Merium from CakeFace Makeup (feared by many companies for her honest appraisals of their products), agreed to collaborate with me on this particular post. We decided that CakeFace Makeup who has a lot of experience in testing and reviewing make-up products would focus on what she knows best whereas It’s Beyond My Control will be writing about 7 top beauty products (that I can’s stop buying as It’s Beyond My Control).

As much as I dislike hot weather, I have to admit that I would rather deal with heat than the unbearable cold that winter brings with her. Not only my spirit but also my skin suffers greatly during this time and after years of trial and error, I’ve finally found beauty products that I could literally not survive without during the coldest months. Let’s not forget, that it is probably the busiest time of year for all of us when it comes to parties and events we want or simply have to attend to. So surely, we all want to look and feel fabulous but even the most beautiful couture gown won’t help us feel that way if our skin is in a terrible condition. Here are my top 7 beauty products for party season and beyond!

1)  Kimia Exquisite All Natural Face Oil £74

Kimia Facial Oil

Kimia Face Oil

This face oil miracle, as I call it, happens to be my newest discovery and it’s literally a life safer for a heavily dehydrated or dry skin and the best part is, that you can easily apply make-up on top of it. It’s 100% natural and it claims to stimulate rejuvenation of the skin cells, cleans and nourish and I actually believe it to be true because my skin has never looked better! It comes as a duo: one is the actual face oil and the other a hydra-activator.

2)  Shu Uemura classic high performance balancing cleansing oil from £28

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil

I don’t believe there is a bigger crime against the beauty regime than not removing make-up before going to sleep. When it comes to cleansing oils and creams, I’ve tried most of them; the only one that does its cleansing job without irritating my skin is Shu Uemura classic high performance balancing oil!

3) Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner £21

Elemis Toner

Elemis Toner

Having never believed in toners, until a celebrity make-up artist gave me a whole lecture about the importance of a good toner, I gave it a go the second she mentioned pore shrinking! I‘ve always been a huge fan of Elemis products, which is why I choose toner of that particular brand and I’m glad I did. My skin is allergic to many beauty products, although Mr. de Merteuil claims that I am only allergic to cheap products. Joking aside, I do have very sensitive skin and the Elemis alcohol-free toner is extremely gentle on me.

4) Sisley Global Perfect Pore Minimizer £119

Sisley Pore Minimizer

Sisley Pore Minimizer

This is without a doubt the best pore minimizer I’ve ever bought and definitely worth the price. It tightens the pores and smoothens the skin’s surface so that when you apply foundation on top, the pores are almost completely invisible from up close!

5) Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream 50ml £79

Elemis Cream

Elemis Cream

Being a beauty product addict I’m constantly on the lookout for the perfect face cream and even though I’ve tried them all (including some of the most expensive brands in the world), the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is the number one choice for me… for now at least. It’s actually an anti-wrinkle cream designed for mature skin but I was told once by a beautician, that one should start using anti-wrinkle creams as prevention from wrinkles appearing, rather than expect the cream to work on a skin already showing heavy signs of wrinkles.

6) ESPA Lift & Firm Mask £45

Espa Mask

Espa Mask

I love ESPA, their spa and their products but for this list, I’ll focus on the Lift & Firm Mask that I use in winter. My skin is normal but it gets dry at this time of the year and as I mentioned before it reacts badly to certain ingredients but I’ve never had any problems with ESPA. The mask is designed for stressed and dehydrated skin and is perfect for the party season as it has a firming effect.

7) Dr. Sebagh Serum Repair £69

Dr Sebagh Serum

Sometimes, when I feel that my skin needs something extra and I have an important event to attend, I use Serum Repair by  “The King of Botox” Dr. Sebagh . The product boosts production of collagen and makes the face look really fresh.

CakeFace Makeup’s Christmas Product Recommendations: 7 of the Top Party Season Must-Haves!

I’m so excited to collaborate on a blog post with the lovely Dominique at It’s Beyond My Control on great products for the holiday season, which is now upon us. My brief was to carefully select seven top makeup essentials for parties.

Now we all know your macquillage is only as good as its staying power. After all, there’s no point perfecting your look for it to disappear within the hour! We need makeup that is long lasting and looks good on the dancefloor as well as in photos, do we not? It was a hard task to choose my favourites as there are so many brilliant products currently on the market, with fresh ideas being introduced all the time. Trying to keep on top of the latest within the beauty industry is like a full time job! Starting with 12 products that do the job and more off the top of my head meant I had a hard time whittling down the number to seven.

My criteria for choosing exemplary products included: recognising reputable brands, providing above average staying power, providing good coverage where necessary, being of high quality and being a little bit fabulous

Here’s a selection of my top picks:

1. Chantecaille Real Skin Foundation SPF 30 £48.00

Chantecaille

Chantecaille

This lightweight, creamy foundation is perfect for those wanting the ‘my skin but better’ look. Medium sheer coverage allows you to perfect the glowing, dewy look and rock smokey eyes all night. I love the ease of which this foundation blends, even over powder. Apply with an Illamasqua blush brush for precise application.

2. Guerlain Meteorites £35.50

Guerlain Meteorites

Guerlain Meteorites

This product has quickly become a party staple as the highlighter which evens skin tone whilst adding a subtle shimmer. As a powder it can be used all over the face, but be warned: overly heavy handed application may cause the dreaded flash back.

3. YSL Touche Eclat highlighter pen £25.00

YSL Touche Eclat

YSL Touche Eclat

Anyone who knows me has heard my glowing praise of this wonderful highlighter/concealer pen. It provides good coverage and a subtle luminosity to skin, perfect for special occasions. Note: As with Guerlain Meteorites, go easy on this product and use sparingly if you will be around flash photography (highly likely during the Christmas season!). Products containing any shimmer or SPF in the ingredients tend to cause the reverse panda or white rings look which is not the most attractive!

4. Dolce and Gabbana lipstick £23.00

Dolce&Gabbana

Dolce&Gabbana

Great for long lasting makeup looks as the slightly dry texture stays on the lips for hours and holds colour extremely well. Top tip: Fill in lips with a similar shade of lipliner and finish off with a coat of your favourite lipgloss (I love MAC’s Lipglass in Snob) to extend the wear.

5. Chanel nail lacquer £18.00

Chanel Nail Polish

Chanel Nail Polish

There’s no nail more glamorous than a Chanel nail! I love the creamy consistency and even texture which looks great even after just one coat. For best use, first apply a base coat and finally apply a topcoat to help your hands look their best (Essie nail products are really good for these preparation steps).

6. Nars Blush in Orgasm £21.00

Nars

Nars

This cult favourite has been a staple in my makeup kit for ages and with good reason! The subtle shimmer is perfect for any dressy event and the pink/peach/gold undertones suit any skintone. It can easily be built up in layers to achieve the desired effect, so use a good brush to swirl, tap and blend (I adore the MAC duo fibre brushes for this task).

7. By Terry Mineral Powder £45.00

By Terry Mineral Powder

By Terry Mineral Powder

This product is not hugely well known but I love the brand (Terry D created YSL Touche Eclat) for its sumptuous packaging and finely milled products. This mineral powder is great for setting under eye concealer and for highlighting the tops of cheekbones. This product may not be for you if you have very dry skin.
