The only way of luring me into a shop or boutique, that I haven’t visited before is either with an incredibly interesting window display or an interior design de jour. Such was the case with my discovery in a very fashionable yet, hidden away from the tourists, part of Warsaw. L’AURA boutique is a serendipitous surprise, a magical jewel that reminds me so much of my beloved NYC. So entering into its world was simply beyond my control.
Internationally acclaimed lighting designer Matteo Messervy, known for his incredible light-architecture, covered the entire space of L’AURA boutique in a white camouflage fabric. The focal point and my favourite element in the boutique is a huge structure of concentric circles on the ceiling, creating the look of being underneath a giant crinoline. The space is lit from behind this material creating a translucency – almost candle-lit feel. This tranquil atmosphere is the perfect background for the very eclectic choices, which the owner Laura Budzyk makes with regard to the brands being stocked in her boutique. She frequently travels to Paris in search of new and interesting designers who opt for the quality of fabrics as well as comfortable clothes -exactly what her clients are looking for.
It’s so refreshing to finally see on show in Warsaw, less commercial designers such as Ilaria Nistri, BARBARA I GONGINI, Isaac Sellam and NUNC. L’AURA boutique is also the only place in Poland where you will find hats by Philip Treacy, Rick Owens :Lilies and DRKSHDW collections as well as Maison Martin Margiela. What makes any boutique shopping experience really special though are the people who work there because of their knowledge of the brands that they sell as well as fashion in general. And that’s exactly what I’ve found during my visit in L’AURA boutique.
